2018 was a successful year for the Vietnamese wood manufacturing and exporting industry, with positive results in several aspects. Vietnam’s wood export turnover underwent the highest growth ever, reaching nearly 8.5 billion USD, a rise of 14.5% compared with 2017. Vietnam and the EU signed their Voluntary Partnership Agreement on Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (VPA-FLEGT). In addition, Vietnam also started enforcing the Law on Forestry since Jan 1st 2019, showing that forestry has been seen as an important sector. Currently, a number of free trade agreements are opening various chances for the Vietnamese wood industry to expand to global markets.
